BLURB

As the president of the Sin City Outlaw Motorcycle Club, l fuck as hard as I ride and rarely go to bed alone.
The women are fast and the violence is intense.
I excel in both.
People either respect me or fear me. I’m not arrogant. It’s just the truth.
I was a king, reigning over Vegas without complication, until one gorgeous sheriff made everything fall apart.
When I saw her, I became a Neanderthal, wanting nothing more than to be between those legs.
I guess that’s where I went wrong, because my reality was shot to hell real
fucking fast.
One kiss caused her to step over that blue line.
One night in her bed made me a traitor.
And now… we’re both screwed.

MY REVIEW

First, if you haven’t read M.N. Forgy’s Devil Dust series then pick it up. You don’t have to read it to start this new series but it definitely gives you a little glimpse into the Sin City Outlaws and Zeek. The blurb for this book and the early teasers sucked me in. “Every villain has a story.” Well ain’t that the damn truth and after meeting Zeek in the last book, I knew it was a story I had to read.

Zeek is king, president of the Sun City Outlaws and his word is law around Vegas. The prologue of the book sucks you in with his rise to power and you can’t wait to find out more. If you have read Devil’s Dust, you know Zeek is Lip’s brother and there is some serious animosity between the two. No love lose for sure. Zeek seems like a complete and utter asshole and honestly when you get more of his backstory, you shouldn’t be surprised.

The unexpected twist is Jillian, the new sheriff on the force. Zeek usually only uses women and throws them to the side; however, from their first meeting, these two can’t seem to stay away from each other. Of course, this is absolutely forbidden and can never happen. The banter and chemistry between the two make flipping pages easy and the story goes by so quickly. Before you know it, the drama has escaped and you will not expect the ending.

I wanted to start the next book immediately and I am super sad to wait. That is when you know the author has done her job….you just want the story to keep going. This is a fantastic start to the series…pick it up today and while you are it, download all of the Devil’s Dust books because these two are going to be all kinds of tangled I think!

EXCERPT

“Really? You got me donuts?” I arch a brow, dropping the lid.
He turns, a mischievous smile fitting his face.
“Don’t all cops like donuts?” he jeers. I roll my eyes, placing my hand on my hip.
“That’s so stereotypical,” I huff.
“Oh, really?” he replies, grabbing the box off the table, a smug smile still on his face.
“I’ll get rid of them then.”
“No, wait!” I nearly trip over my feet trying to grab the box of donuts. He holds them higher than me and smiles so big I think I see two dimples. Really, he’s pulling the notorious bully move holding them just above my reach? Why am I attracted to him again?
“I thought you didn’t like them,” he taunts.
“I do like them. A lot, actually.” I cross my arms, my cheeks flushing. My dad used to always take me to the local bakery to get donuts on the weekends. I would get whatever I wanted—usually anything with sprinkles—and we would drop the rest off at the department. What can I say, embrace your stereotypes.
“So, it’s true. Cops love donuts,” he states arrogantly, sitting the box back down.

 RELEASING JANUARY 25, 2016

SYNOPSIS

Chelsey Young’s dad was a rock star. Glamorous, right? But late nights, frequent travelling, and watching endless women rub their bodies against Lukas Young’s in a bid for his attention wasn’t exactly how Chelsey planned to spend her senior year of high school.

So when Kye Burke, of the ultra-sexy band Dirty B, sets his sights on Chelsey, she figures the best way to get him off her back is by taking his sexy butt to bed.

But after one night together, Kye has no intention of staying away from Chelsey, especially when she’s kissing him one minute then pushing him away the next. From watching her father, Chelsey knows the rock star lifestyle that Kye leads—being away for long stretches of time, girls throwing themselves at him on the regular, shirtless photos showing up in his inbox ten times a day. She wants no part of it.

Kye is determined for Chelsey to get to know him, the real him behind the rock star persona. But that isn’t so easy when Kye’s schedule will take him away for days, weeks, even a month or two at a time, which is a dealbreaker for Chelsey. Long distance means temptation to stray, and infidelity was the reason her own parents split. She knows it’s not fair to project her own insecurities onto Kye, but some things are unavoidable.

But Kye Burke isn’t Lukas Young.

And, distance or not, he’s going to damn well prove it.

MY REVIEW

Every time I pick up a Burke brother’s book, I think he is my new favorite.  Well, I finished Dirty Tricks and if I am being honest, Kye Burke is the brother I would pick out of all of Dirty B.  He is honest, straightforward, appreciates his family, friends and life in general and he takes nothing for granted.  He really sees his life for what it is: a blessing and he embraces it everyday.

Chelsea might be my favorite leading lady in this series as well.  She is rough around the edges and generally seen as a bitch. She says what she thinks even if it may cost her.  She is no holds bar.  She grew up around the rock star life style and it didn’t treat her nicely.  So Kye and his brothers are everything she is not interested in.  She also grew up around them and knows they are decent guys and her best friends have even fallen in love with the others but she is bound and determined to steer clear.  Problem is: Kye wants Chelsey and what Kye wants, Kye gets.

Watching these two dance around each other makes the pages of this book flip quickly.  You catch yourself smiling at these two as they trade barbs and watch the sexual tension build and explode.  I absolutely adored these two and I loved watching them fall in love with each other.  They didn’t tiptoe around each other and there honesty with each other was refreshing.  I loved seeing the two of them realize how much they each mean to the other.

This is the end of the Dirty B books and I am a bit sad but this was a heck of an ending.  Kye and Chelsey’s story reminds me why I loved this series to begin with.  Everyone of the Dirty B boys fought for what they want and never doubt they would get it.  The love and friendship among these characters oozes off of every page in each and every book.  This is a series you don’t want to miss and Dirty Tricks provides the perfect ending.

EXCERPT

“What,” Chelsey exclaims, “the hell is that?”
With a wide smile spreading across my face, I shove my hands in my pockets like a teenage boy and look at her. “A Christmas tree.”
“Are those . . . penises?”
“Technically, dildos.”
“Like real ones?” She jerks her alarmed gaze to me.
“No. Just plastic.”
She flicks her tongue across her lips. “Uh-huh. Why do you have penises across your Christmas tree?”
“Because he’s an immature little bastard,” Leila answers for me.
“You didn’t stop me,” I shoot back.
“Hell no I didn’t. I cannot wait to see Mom’s face when she sees this!”
“When she sees what?” Mom’s voice creeps through the house ominously, and the close of the door after her sounds like the signal that I should run away.
“Uh . . . I’m just gonna go . . .to the store. . . .” I shuffle toward the door that connects the front room with the kitchen.
Chelsey lifts her eyebrows in amusement, and Dad grabs the back of my shirt so I can’t escape.
You wouldn’t think I was twenty-four. For numerous reasons, obviously.
“Kye Burke, why are there tiny penises on my Christmas tree?”
Her voice is calm. Really calm. I’m even more convinced that I should run. “Merry Cock-mas?”
Mom’s expression is somewhere between insane amusement and extreme frustration.
“I’m just gonna come back later . . .” Chelsey whispers, edging toward the living room door. “When there are less . . . cocks.”
“Good idea! I’ll come with you.” I wrestle out of Dad’s grip and dart behind him, through the kitchen, and into the hall.
Chelsey laughs and grabs my arm, dragging me back into the room. “I said I was going. I didn’t say you were escaping this cock-up.”
“Great choice of words,” Dad chuckles.
Mom pinches the bridge of her nose. “I should have known that when three boys left, one boy would have to make the impression of three,” she says, mostly to herself. “I should have known that the one who never left his little peep alone at two would one day decorate my tree in cocks.”
“Mom! What the hell?” I sputter.
“I should have known that his ball-hoarding obsession at six was a sign of things to come,” she sighs heavily and drops her hand. “After all, there’s one in every boyband. I thought I was ready for this.” Then, she turns to me. “Kye, son, we love you anyway, but I have to ask. Are you gay?”
Chelsey lets go of me, and laughter rips from her. Leila laughs, too, her book falling to the floor. Dad covers his face with his hands, and Mom just stands there in the middle of the room, her eyes wide. Her hands are now clasped in front of her sympathetically, and the tiny upturn of the right side of her mouth explains it all.
“Well played, Mother,” I say reluctantly, walking back toward the front door. “Well. Played.”

MY REVIEW

I patiently waited for the release of Xavier Cold after Phenomenal X.  I loved the story of Xavier and Anna and it was a heck of a cliffhanger so I had extremely high expectations for this sequel.  If I am honest, I was a bit disappointed in the storyline.  It had all the classic makings of a phenomenal Michelle Valentine book with secondary characters you wanted to know more about, angst between the male and female lead, outside forces causing problems between the two and of course fantastic chemistry; however, it seemed rushed and most of the subplots were tied up too quickly with a neat little bow.

Now, a vast majority of readers enjoy this and on occasion so do I but if I am honest, I thought there was a whole lot of story not told.  Xavier’s past is riddled with potential stories to tell and Michelle told a few of them but I thought there could have been more.  Xavier ran with a gang and this subplot had the potential to make for some really good secondary storylines.  We were introduced to a few characters (Bishop and Kai) but there was little development and at the end of the book, it was swiftly wrapped up in a neat package.  Xavier’s old friend Cole had potential to show another side of Xavier and we did get a bit of this in their limited conversations but there could have been more.  I also would have loved to see more Rex/Xavier/Anna interaction.  Everyone that read Phenomenal X loathed Rex. He is a character that you love to hate.  He gets under Xavier’s skin and he causes Anna unending heartburn.  I would have loved to see Anna on her own a bit more fighting to claim her own identity without Xavier and standing up for herself.  Don’t get me wrong, she does this a bit but I thought there could be more.

This book was good but it wasn’t my favorite Michelle Valentine.  I adore her and she is fantastic storyteller but I expected more from this book.  I didn’t love it but it did give Anna and Xavier the HEA we all wanted them to have.

3.5 Stars.

Book Release and Review: Love to Love You by Isabelle Richards

HLr8BIhpc9zKSM2blytT-AlEJ02C5Kaysw1Vn6z1Pek

Synopsis

For richer or poorer, in good times and in bad.

After a long year of heartache and loss, Chase and Arianna pulled together the shattered pieces of their hearts and rebuilt a relationship that is stronger and more secure than ever before. Letting go of the mistakes of their past, their focus is on the future— their happily ever after.

Happily ever after…

Those three simple words are filled with so much promise, as though a wedding is the gateway to a lifetime of bliss. It sounds so easy.

When it comes to Chase and Arianna, nothing ever comes easy.

Now that Arianna is rebuilding her career and the start of the football season approaches, she and Chase are pulled in opposite directions. Hectic travel schedules, never ending work demands, and intense media scrutiny have the power shatter even in the most secure relationships Their relationship cracked under the pressure of their celebrity lifestyle in the past, for them to avoid repeating mistakes from the past, compromises will have to be made. Begging the question— how much are they willing to sacrifice? How far are they willing to go to save their relationship?

It’s one thing to say love can endure through “good times and in bad,” it’s quite another to mean it.

My Review

The first two books show us how hard these two worked to find their way to each other.  There were moments you wanted to slap Chase and moments you wanted to just throw your hands in the air at Arianna’s choices.  Love to Love You gives us these two as a completely devoted and loving couple mucking through life difficulties.  You don’t question their love and devotion.  Not once.  Ever.  You don’t question that they will get married.  What Isabelle does for her readers is she gives us the opportunity to experience how two people love and support each other through some really difficult times and life choices.

It was beautiful to read.  It made me cheer out loud.  It made me angry and I would huff and puff.  It made me appreciate my own husband and my marriage.  I caught myself talking with my husband after Isabelle threw in another “life” roadblock for these two.  We talked out their problems like they were our own. “What would  you do?”  “Well, this is how I would handle it.”  “Damn, that is really difficult.  I’m not sure what I would do.”

You know a book has told a good story when you share it with others.  I shared it every night with my husband as I read it. I was beyond happy that we didn’t just get a novella but Chase and Ari’s continued story. This was page upon page of a couple that fell in love, embracing each other and everything life throws at them. And guess what, they made it out the other side…better together, content, more in love and happily married.

PS.  The epilogue is epic and paves the way for more books to come.  These characters just stick with you and I can’t wait to see Chase and Ari, old and gray, loving each other and their family too.

ABOUT SINFUL LOVE:

Intense. Devoted. Protective.

Michael Sloan is all of the above, with a hard tough edge to boot. He’s not the guy he used to be. Years ago, before all the s&%t went down, he was laidback, carefree, and even happy-go-lucky.

Life changed him. Hardened him.

There’s one woman though who can break down his walls. Someone who knew him then. Who can reach inside to that heart he protects fiercely…because she’s the only one he ever gave it to. When they collide, it’s tender and savage, gentle and rough, and makes them both hungry for more of this electric, once-in-a-blue moon kind of sexual chemistry. But it’s a battle of wills between Michael and the woman he loves, with words and emotions held close to the vest.

She doesn’t believe she can ever move on from her own heartache, but when Michael makes her feel for the first time in years, it’s both thrilling and scares the hell out of her, setting off all her flight instincts. He’s determined not to lose her again, but he’ll have to learn to let her in if he ever wants to fully heal from the past…

The problem is, she knows something about the night his family shattered. She has the missing puzzle piece…but neither one of them realizes it.

YET.

SINFUL LOVE is the fourth and final book in the steamy, sexy, suspenseful New York Times Bestselling Sinful Nights series from Lauren Blakely, author of the wildly popular Seductive Nights series…

EXCERPT:

Chapter One

The letter smelled like her.

Like rain.

He ran his thumb over the corner of the paper, and closed his eyes briefly. Memories rose to the surface, feeling like hope and possibility.

Far too risky things when it came to her.

Michael shut them down, opened his eyes, and stared out the floor-to-ceiling windows of his penthouse on the Strip, trying to focus on the here and now, not the enticing lure of what if. Soon, the lights of Vegas would blink like a carnival unfolding below him, from the miniature Eiffel Tower, to the pyramid, to the blazing signs adorning The Cosmopolitan. Neon, glitz, and billboards ten stories high whispered of the best nights ever.

He had to stay fixed on the minute details of the present, not be seduced by the past, and how good it was. Or of how much he’d longed for a future with her.

But he wasn’t having the easiest time of that. From his vantage point, twenty stories above the concrete ribbon that beckoned millions of tourists, he brought the letter to his nose for one final inhale.

The scent of falling rain.

Try as he might, he gave in. A reel of sensory images rushed back to him in an instant from years ago, like the snap, snap, snap of old film. How many times had he kissed Annalise in the rain? Brushed her wild red hair off her cheeks, touched her soft skin? Listened to her laugh?

Countless. Just like the times he’d lingered on her over the years, even after that day in Marseilles ten years ago that had damn near slaughtered all his hope left in the world.

Carefully, he folded up the letter, slid it back into the tiny envelope postmarked from France, and stuffed it into his wallet, next to a crinkled, faded, threadbare note from his father that he’d carried with him through all the years. Her letter had arrived two weeks ago, and he’d read it a thousand times already. He could read it a thousand more times, but it wouldn’t change his answer. The same one he’d emailed back to her.

Yes.

It was always yes with her.

Chapter 2
Adri
“Is this straight?” Dad asks, peering in the mirror across from the front door and messing with the badge on the breast pocket of his blue shirt.
There is almost no crime on our little island because Dad is legendary for taking down drug rings and poachers, but when it comes to the little things, like pinning his badge on straight, he still needs help.
That’s why I’m here.
When Mom died last spring, I came back from Jacksonville so I could live at home and help Dad. He and Mom were high school sweethearts and married not long after graduation. He’s always been taken care of. I don’t want him to be alone.
I move to where he is and turn him, unpinning the badge and straightening it. I smooth his salt and pepper hair off his forehead and stretch up on my toes to kiss the smooth patch of cheek above the line of his beard. “I seriously doubt they’re going to send the Chief of Police home for a dress code infraction.”
“We’ll see,” he chuckles, giving my blond ponytail a gentle tug. “You ready for your first day influencing the youth of Port St. Mary?”
I was over the moon when I got the call three days ago that Mrs. Martin had had surgery and they needed a long-term sub for her class. Not that I’m happy they hacked out her gallbladder or anything, but her loss is my gain, so to speak.
I come from a long line of educators. Mom was my first grade teacher. Both of her sisters, her father, and her grandfather taught as well. You could say it’s in my DNA. I resisted it for a while, thought I wanted to go into finance, but by my junior year at Clemson I had to finally admit to myself teaching was what I really wanted to do. I changed my major to Education and finished my credential just before Mom died.
Since her death, it’s felt even more urgent to me to teach—like maybe following in her footsteps will somehow keep her spirit alive. But Port St. Mary and the surrounding communities are small, and teaching jobs are pretty scarce. I was afraid I was going to have to try elsewhere come fall. This was a prayer answered…which makes me a little afraid I might have had something to do with poor Mrs. Martin’s gallbladder flaring up. And now it’s starting to feel like one of those “be careful what you wish for” scenarios.
I rub my sweaty palms down my slacks. “What happens if they hate me?”
Dad wraps me in his arms and squeezes me in a bear hug, crushing the air out of my lungs. “They’re going to love you, punkin. Your mom would be so proud of you right now,” he says, a catch in his voice. “I hope you know that.”
I swallow back the lump in my throat and look up at him. I can’t even remember the last time he’s brought her up out of the blue like this. “I know, Dad, but thanks for saying so.” He lets me go and I shoulder my messenger bag. “Time to face the music.”
We step out the back door to where my old electric blue Chevy Lumina is parked in the driveway, next to Dad’s only slightly less conspicuous cruiser. Dad watches as I slide in and turn the key. The engine chugs but doesn’t turn over.
I blow out a breath and pop the hood. By the time I grab the monkey wrench on the floor of the passenger side and get out of the car, Dad already has the hood propped up and is looking over the engine compartment.
“Don’t mess with Frank, Dad.” I point my finger in a circle at the guts of my poor Frankencar. Me and my best friend Chuck rebuilt most of the insides from junkyard parts when we took auto shop our senior year in high school. “It’s a delicate balance.”
He grins and steps back, his hands in the air. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
I will always love Frank—he was my first—but I know I need a new car. Dad’s offered me Mom’s T-Bird, but I’m twenty-three. I’m supposed to be responsible for myself at this point. And besides, I’d rather he sold Mom’s car and put the money towards his retirement. Even though Port St. Mary is pretty sleepy most of the time, everyday he goes to work, I worry.
I reach between the radiator and the engine and give the alternator a sharp rap with the wrench, then slip back into the driver’s seat. When I turn the key, Frank chugs twice, same as always, then rumbles to life.
Dad ducks into the cruiser and gives me a little salute as I pull out.
Port St. Mary Elementary is only about two miles from home. It takes a grand total of eight minutes to drive there. Technically, it’s a one-room schoolhouse. The tiny twelve-space parking lot butts up against an octagonal building, which, in fact, is just one big room inside. In the exact center of the building are the bathrooms and storage closets, and from there, folding accordion partitions section off each wedge of the octagon. Each wedge is a grade level, kinder through sixth, and a multipurpose room. To the right of the parking lot is a doublewide “portable” that houses the school offices and small staff room. Behind that, children are already gathering in the playground, which is really just a weed-infested lot with a slide and jungle gym that has been there since before I started kindergarten here.
When I walk around the octagon to the door marked with a big yellow four and step inside, it’s like deja vu all over again. Mrs. Martin (she told me to call her Pam when we talked on the phone about the lesson plan yesterday, but I can’t bring myself to) has had the same posters on the walls since the dawn of time. The presidential chart ends with Reagan. She had already been teaching fourth grade in this same classroom for, like, twenty years when I had her.
I move to her desk, to the right of the door, and set my bag on it. And that’s when I see the note from Principal Richmond.
A new student.
I brush my palms down my slacks again, a fresh jolt of nerves twisting my insides into knots. I was already going to be way over my head with a classroom full of nine-year-olds fresh off Christmas vacation and all sugared up on candy canes.
I look over the instructions. Sherman William Davidson needs his reading comprehension assessment, writing and grammar evaluation, and his math skills worksheet completed by the end of the week.
I blow a wisp of hair off my forehead and unpack my toothpaste and toothbrush, my journal, and a few of my favorite colored pens into Mrs. Martin’s desk, careful not to displace her things too much. I’m just pulling the assessments for the new kid from the file cabinet when the classroom door opens. I hear Principal Richmond’s gravel voice before I turn around. “…and his classroom is here. We just got word a few days ago that our regular fourth grade teacher is out on medical leave, but Sherman will be in good hands with Ms. Wilson. She’s a very capable substitute.”
I take a deep breath as I turn and hope he’s not lying.
I substituted five times during fall semester. For the most part, everything went great until I subbed for Mrs. Yetz’s eighth grade class the week before winter break. Somehow, what started out as a math lab on probability devolved into a liar’s dice tournament, complete with money changing hands. I wasn’t sure they’d call me back after that.
But when I see Principal Richmond waddle his round frame through the door, I straighten the scarf I tied over my favorite teal sweater and try to look as confident in what he said as he does.
“Ms. Wilson,” he says, waving me over. “This is your new student, Sherman.”
Sherman is a wiry little thing with unruly brown hair and clothes that hang off him a little. He looks as if he’d vanish into himself if given the chance.
“He goes by Sherm,” the man standing next to him says.
I look up into some of the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen. Heavy dark brows curve over irises the color of honey with burgundy flecks through them. Thick brown waves are loose around a strong face with angled cheekbones, and a square jaw covered in two-day stubble. Set in flawless olive skin are lips so firm and red they make me forget the frown that’s turning them down slightly at the corners. He’s just so…gorgeous, like something out of a magazine or a movie. And he’s tall—well over six feet of broad shoulders tapering to narrow hips under his blue button-down shirt. The tails are loose over pressed jeans that fit him just so. Everything about him is tailored and cultured and nothing like any of the year-rounders who live on this bumpkin island. But it’s not just the way he looks. A blend of confidence and something else I can’t identify but makes him feel a little intimidating wafts off him with the spicy cologne I keep catching hints of. He’s nothing like anyone I’ve ever met, even at Clemson.
I feel my jaw dangling and snap it closed, pulling myself together long enough to extend an arm. “I’m Adri.”
Principal Richmond clears his throat, and when I flick a glance his direction, I know my ogling didn’t go unnoticed. His brow is deeply furrowed and his frown curves so low it makes him look like one of those marionettes, where their chin is a whole different piece of wood than the rest of their face.
My eyes bulge and I shift my outstretched hand to Sherm. “I mean, Miss Wilson. Welcome to Port St. Mary, Sherm.”
The boy just looks at me with sad eyes the color of his…father’s?
My gaze gravitates back to the guy towering over me. Could he be Sherm’s dad? He looks way too young to have a nine-year-old. He also looks all business. There’s nothing soft or nurturing in his cold, sharp gaze as it flicks around the classroom, silently assessing.
“What’s on the other side of those partitions?” he asks Principal Richmond.
“The third and fifth grade classrooms,” he answers.
The guy’s eyes continue to scan the room. “He’ll spend all day in here?”
The principal nods. “Except when he’s on the playground.”
“Is there security on campus?”
Principal Richmond looks momentarily perplexed, rubbing his round stomach as if he’s thinking with it. “Not as such. We have yard monitors during recess and lunch, and the teachers are responsible for the children when they’re here in class.”
“What about lunch?”
“He can bring his own lunch, or buy a bag lunch from Nutritional Services for three dollars. Either way, if it’s nice weather, the children eat outside at the picnic tables. On rainy days, we open the partitions and they eat inside as a group.”
The guy reaches into his pocket, but Principal Richmond holds up his hand to stop him when he comes out with a thick wad of cash. “We don’t allow students to carry money on campus. When we’re done here, I’ll take you to the office and have you purchase a scan card for Nutritional Services.”
The guy nods, then moves to the door and jiggles the knob. “The exterior doors are left unlocked?”
“During school hours, yes.” Principal Richmond answers, moving to my desk and shuffling through the papers I pulled for Sherm.
The guy’s full lips narrow into a tight line and he scowls at the door. He spins and starts toward the door in the back of the room, leaving no stone unturned.
I wipe my hands down my slacks again and decide just to ask. “So, you’re Sherm’s father?”
His feet stall on the chipped linoleum and he seems to finally notice I exist. “Brother,” he answers, and that one word seems to carry the weight of the world with it as it falls from his mouth.
His eyes make a slow sweep of my face, and as they trail down my neck, the front of my sweater, over my hips and down my legs, I’m frozen in place, paralyzed by the intensity of his gaze.
Principal Richmond shoves some papers in my face, breaking the spell. “You still have fifteen minutes until the bell. Maybe you can get Sherman started on these.”
“Um…” I grab the papers out of his hand as Big Brother blinks, some of the thickest lashes I’ve ever seen hiding those incredible eyes. “Yeah. We’ll do that…”
Principal Richmond guides Big Brother to the door. “Let’s get out of their way and let them get started. I’m sure Sherman will have a positive experience here. Children his age tend to adjust quickly,” he’s saying as the door swings closed behind them.

MY REVIEW

A few years ago,  I read the A Little Too Far series by Lisa Desrochers and loved it!  I loved it so much I devoured the rest of her books.  I have patiently been waiting for her to release something new.  Outside the Lines is a good start to the On the Run Series.  At times the story dragged especially the first 40% of the book.  There was quite a bit of description of the Delgado family dynamics and shuttling Sherman to and from school.

The basic premise of the book goes as follows: With their mobster father behind bars, and enemies making advances, the Delgado children land in witness protection where they are relocated from their Chicago lifestyle to an extremely small Florida town. They are supposed to stay off the radar but Rob, the oldest has plans for revenge.  However, he falls for his little brother’s teacher which throws a bit of a wrench in his plan.

I love mafia books so I was hooked after the blurb.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough action and violence in this book to categorize it as such.  Also, the romance factor between Rob and Adri was a bit lacking at times as well as the sex scenes.  I expected more from both of them.  I didn’t connect fast enough with either of them.  Now, the rest of the Delgado family, I loved.  Especially Sherman and Lee.

The story line for this series has promise.  I am definitely going to read book #2 since it is about Lee and I connected with her in this book.  I am hoping there is more movement in the plot that includes more action and chemistry between the leads.   I am on the fence about this book, it wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t terrible.  The writing was great and there is promise of more…..we shall see with book #2.

“Fuck you, Zeek! I am an officer of the law, and you!” I point at him, words starting to slur. “You’re a criminal, one everyone around here seems to pussyfoot around—”

“Everyone except you,” he interrupts. “Why aren’t you afraid of me?” he whispers, his head leaning back, eyes gleaming down at me. His question is laced with so many emotions, and I’m not sure how to answer.

Truth is, I am afraid of Zeek. I’m afraid of him for so many reasons.

“Who says I’m not? You’re a bad guy, Zeek,” I mutter. Citizens and law enforcement are conditioned to fear him, what he represents.

He steps forward, his hands slipping into his jeans pockets.

“I could be a good guy,” he whispers, looking at me as if he’s trying to tell me something.

ABOUT BIG ROCK

It’s not just the motion of the ocean, ladies. It’s definitely the SIZE of the boat too.

And I’ve got both firing on all cylinders. In fact, I have ALL the right assets. Looks, brains, my own money, and a big cock.

You might think I’m an asshole. I sound like one, don’t I? I’m hot as sin, rich as heaven, smart as hell and hung like a horse.

Guess what? You haven’t heard my story before. Sure, I might be a playboy, like the NY gossip rags call me. But I’m the playboy who’s actually a great guy. Which makes me one of a kind.

The only trouble is, my dad needs me to cool it for a bit. With conservative investors in town wanting to buy his flagship Fifth Avenue jewelry store, he needs me not only to zip it up, but to look the part of the committed guy. Fine. I can do this for Dad. After all, I’ve got him to thank for the family jewels. So I ask my best friend and business partner to be my fiancée for the next week. Charlotte’s up for it. She has her own reasons for saying yes to wearing this big rock.

And pretty soon all this playing pretend in public leads to no pretending whatsoever in the bedroom, because she just can’t fake the kind of toe-curling, window-shattering orgasmic cries she makes as I take her to new heights between the sheets.

But I can’t seem to fake that I might be feeling something real for her.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into with this…big rock?

BIG ROCK is a standalone, dirty romance novel written from the guy’s POV by NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

EXCERPT

I do my best work in the bedroom. This is completely my domain. So it should be no big deal that she asked me to wait here. But something about being in Charlotte’s bedroom is wigging me out.

Mostly because there’s nearby nudity transpiring mere feet away.

She’s taking a shower, and no matter how you slice them, New York apartments are approximately thimble size. Let me spell this out—wet, naked, hot woman in a ten-foot radius.

Got it? Okay. Moving on.

I pick up a picture frame on her sky blue bureau of the dog her parents have. A fluffy brown summa dog—some of this, some of that. I’m going to focus on this mutt. Zero in on him. Look at his tail. Check out his ears. Yup, this picture is doing the trick. It is helping me not to linger on the naked woman and how well she kisses.

Or how much I liked it.

Why the fuck did I like it so much?

Of course you liked it, idiot. A pretty woman kisses you, and you’re straight—you’d be stupid not to like it. End of story. Doesn’t mean anything. Stop analyzing.

Especially since she just turned off the shower.

Maybe she forgot a towel. Maybe she’ll open the door a crack, and ask me to grab one for her.

I smack my forehead. Get it together, Holiday.

I set down the picture, draw a deep inhale and straighten my shoulders. The door creaks open. She steps out of the bathroom wearing only a white fluffy towel wrapped above her breasts.

“You might be wondering why I asked you to wait in my bedroom instead of the living room,” she says, in the most matter-of-fact tone.

I have no clue how she can be talking like we’re having a business transaction when droplets of water slide down her bare legs. But I’m a strong man. I can handle this. I’m not tempted at all by my best friend. Though my dick begs to differ, the traitorous prick.

“The thought crossed my mind,” I say, as I lean against the bureau, striking a casual pose.

“Because if you’re my fiancé, you need to be comfortable with me being naked,” she says with a crisp nod.

Shit, she’s going to do it. She’s going to drop the towel. She’s going to make us practice fucking. I am the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

Wait. No. I can’t fuck my best friend. I absolutely, positively, can’t screw Charlotte. Even if she tosses the towel on the floor and begs me to.

I lace my fingers together behind my back, linking these twitchy hands.

“Okay, so you’re getting naked,” I say, doing my best to imitate her cool-as-a-cucumber tone that is throwing me off big time.

“No. It’s the idea of me naked,” she corrects.

I give her a pointed look. “Seems to me it’s both the idea and the reality.”

“Fine, fine. They’re one and the same, and it’s part of the debrief.”

“Is this the exam portion?”

She walks past me, her arm brushing against mine before she yanks open the top drawer of the bureau. “Yes. This is the practical portion.”

“And this is because you somehow think we’re going to be required to be naked together in front of Mr. Offerman in order to pull this off? This isn’t like some feats-of-strength style fake engagement where we have to pass certain skill sets in an obstacle course. You know that, right?”

She nods, as she hunts around in the drawer. “I’m aware of that. I see this as more like the Newlywed game.”

“And in this version of the game we’re quizzed on how I get used to the idea of you naked and vice versa?”

Her breath hitches when I say that—vice versa.

I don’t know what to make of that small gasp, or if it means something about the idea of me au naturel.

She spins around, and holds up two pairs of panties, one in each hand. “Quick. Do you prefer it when your fiancée wears the black lace thong?” She waggles a scrap of silky-looking fabric that is so hot my face might be engulfed in flames right now because Charlotte owns that? “Or do you prefer her in the white side-string bikini?” She waves the white pair before my eyes, and all I can see is a tiny triangular patch of fabric that’s the slightest bit see-through.

Forget the flames. I am a fucking inferno right now knowing she owns this too. White panties that reveal pretty much everything.

MY REVIEW

Sometimes you just need a book that isn’t heavy and angsty and just a good laugh out loud romance.  Do those exist?  Yes but they are few and far between.  Big Rock by Lauren Blakely fits the bill to a tee.  I actually chuckled out loud just reading the prologue of this book and knew I would fly through this one.  The story is told from a male POV….Spencer’s to be exact and you can’t help but love this guy.  He definitely loves himself, has a million things going for him including a great family but he doesn’t have a girlfriend.  Now, for Spencer, this is intentional.  He doesn’t want all the “complications and nuisances” of a relationship in his life.  However, he quickly has to fake a relationship to help out his family.

Enter: Charlotte.  Charlotte is Spencer’s best friend and business partner.  They rely, love and depend on each other.  Their friendship is important to both of them and they seemingly aren’t attracted to each other until Spencer asks Charlotte to be his fake fiancee.  They have to fake it until they make it until the end but what happens when two best friends start looking at each other in a different light?  Can they stay BFFs or will they be more?

I absolutely adored both of these characters as well as Spencer’s family.  It was refreshing to read a book without terrible backstories and screwed up families.  These two were just perfect separate but even better together.  Lauren Blakely never fails to suck me into each and every book she writes.  There is a reason….she is a talented storyteller no matter the plot line, no matter the characters.  She makes you fall in love and in this one, even laugh out loud.  She knocked this RomCom out of the park!

This hysterical and addictive standalone can be bought everywhere!! Go forth and laugh, swoon and fan yourself into the New Year with this dirty, sexy romantic comedy told from the male POV!
